MECHANICAL PROJECT ENGINEER

Mechanical Project Engineering for Oil & Gas Industry Equipment Design & Manufacturing

 

Job Description

  • Prepares mechanical equipment descriptions, performs equipment sizing and prepares equipment data sheets. Selects mechanical equipment. Mechanical equipment includes, but is not limited to, compressors, pumps, separators, filters, heat exchangers, and storage tanks.
  • Develops project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans - conferring with management, determines project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements-assigning personnel to phases and elements –
  • Prepares project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends - recommending actions, Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed, Estimation of resources, cost, manpower required for specific project
  • Prepares mechanical equipment technical specifications and equipment RFQs to request budgetary or firm pricing to support estimating or project department.
  • Contributes to the development of client proposal and project cost estimates.
  • Performs technical analysis of bids and review of vendor drawings.
  • Prepares equipment layouts.
  • Preparation of calculations including, hydraulics, ASME Calc, piping sizing, control valve and equipment sizing, pressure drop calculations, structural calculation etc..
  • Actively participates in the project kick of meeting to develop the Basic Engineering Design Document for each project.
  • Assures all mechanical engineering designs meet applicable codes and standards including company standards, API, ASME as well as others used in static and rotating equipment mechanical design and development for refineries, petro/chemical and mid-stream gas processing, general industry, and utilities.
  • Trouble-shoot existing systems in the field, determine modifications to existing systems to change performance, etc.
  • Coordinates with clients, vendors and subcontractors as required.
  • Prepares job books.
  • Communicates and interfaces openly and frequently with project managers, project engineers and other managers of discipline engineers. Participates in periodic project reviews and client discussions, as required, to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Keeps current with advances in technology in the marketplace.
  • Maintain strict compliance and technical support with Quality Assurance and Quality Control processes.
  • Other duties as required.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Must have at least five years of mechanical design experience in chemical, industrial, oil and gas processing industry.
  • Experience selecting fixed and rotating equipment. Experience includes, but is not limited to, compressors, pumps, pressure vessels, tanks and heat exchangers.
  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required, Master Degree preferred.
  • Field experience preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent working knowledge of applicable codes such as ASME Section 8 Divisions 1 and 2, B31.1, B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, ASCE, AWS, and API specifications.
  • Good working knowledge of PvElite software for pressure vessel calculation.
  • Good working knowledge of Process Safety Management.
  • Excellent working knowledge of standard software including Excel and Word.
  • Prioritizing tasks and efficiently managing time.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and effectiveness in working with a high-performing, mostly technical team.
  • Learns quickly and willing to ask for help.
  • Skills in both written and spoken communication to support customers, teammates, and external users with a wide range of skill levels.
  • Preparing, reading, analyzing, and interpreting documents.
